“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.” – Ernest Hemingway.
It is our intent at Fitzwilliam Primary School to provide pupils with a high-quality education in English that will teach pupils to speak, and write with fluency, control and accuracy so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others effectively.
The English curriculum allows pupils to focus on developing effective transcription and effective composition through the explicit teaching of sentence structures. Children are taught to use and apply a range of grammatical structures that are suited to different purposes and genres. We intend for pupils to leave school being able to use fluent, legible and speedy handwriting.
Writing is a crucial part of our curriculum, with many opportunities given for children to develop and apply their writing skills across the wider curriculum too.
