Vision & Values
Our Values and Behaviour Principles
At Fitzwilliam Primary School, as a proud member of the Inspire Partnership Multi-Academy Trust, we create a culture where every child is empowered to thrive. Our school life is underpinned by four core values and three clear “Pocket Principles” that define how we work, learn, and grow together.
Our Core Values
Our values represent our shared commitment to our pupils and our community:
- Excellence: We strive for excellence by never settling for “good enough” and working hard to achieve wonderful work.
- Innovation: We show innovation by being brave, trying new things, and knowing that our mistakes are part of our success.
- Support: We support each other by listening, showing encouragement, and being there when someone needs us.
- Collaboration: We collaborate by sharing our thoughts and ideas to ensure everyone feels success.
Our Pocket Principles
To maintain a safe, positive, and productive environment, we follow three essential principles every day:
Be Respectful
- Say please and thank you.
- Hold doors open for adults.
- Talk kindly to other pupils.
- Say good morning/afternoon to adults and engage in conversations with them.
- Say thank you to staff at the end of the day.
Be Responsible
- Complete homework on time.
- Remember to bring equipment to school and look after the resources given to you.
- Tidy up your own workspace and the classroom.
- Accept responsibility if you make a mistake and say sorry.
- Sit still and remain focused on the task at hand.
Be Ready to Learn
- Listen carefully to the teacher.
- Give the teacher 100% of your attention.
- Work hard on every task given.
- Be in the right place at the right time.
Our “Excellent” Behaviour Principles
To support our core values and Pocket Principles, we teach our pupils the specific habits that lead to success. At Fitzwilliam, we focus on three key areas of “Excellent” behaviour to ensure our school is a calm, respectful, and high-achieving environment.
Excellent Walking: Safe and Purposeful Movement
We take pride in how we move around our building to ensure the school remains a peaceful place for everyone.
- What it looks like: We face forward, walk in a straight line, keep our hands by our sides, and move calmly and quietly.
- Why we do it: Excellent Walking keeps everyone safe and ensures that as classes move through the building, the learning of other children is never disrupted.
Excellent Listening:
In the classroom, we use Excellent Listening to give our full attention to our teachers and our peers.
- What it looks like: We face forward with our hands still, sit up straight, talk in turns, and “track the speaker” with our eyes.
- Why we do it: Excellent Listening ensures that every child can learn without distractions. For demonstrating this and other high standards, pupils can earn Class Champion points for their class. Conversely, we ensure fairness by applying clear consequences for those who do not follow these essential school rules.
Excellent Manners:
As part of our commitment to being global citizens, we demonstrate our character through Excellent Manners.
- What it looks like: We address everyone by their name, greet others politely, always use “please” and “thank you,” and show patience and kindness in everything we do. We take pride in our school and show gratitude for the opportunities we have.
- Why we do it: Manners define our positive behaviors and demonstrate our personality. By practicing these repeatedly, they become our “norm”—vital life skills that set our pupils apart and prepare them for life beyond our school gates.
Our Commitment
By embedding these values and principles into the heart of our school, we foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and high ambition. We believe that when our children are respectful, responsible, and ready to learn, they are perfectly positioned to achieve the excellence that defines our school.
